Envisioning a Bright Future!

Peace may be the absence of conflict - or more realistically it may be the 'balancing' of conflict.. Recognizing that as humans we are going to disagree - and we can respect our differences without breaking into a fight..  And maybe even have a dialog and learn from each other.

That seems to be getting harder to do in these days of division and polarization, and it's easy to become overwhelmed or even cynical in the face of immense challenges of Climate change, Geopolitical and financial upheaval, the Legacy of racism, Culture wars and the erosion of trust, Wealth disparity and poverty.  It feels like we're on the verge of falling and trying to keep our balance.

One thing is clear to me.  If we don't envision a bright future, we are less likely to achieve it.  As the Cheshire cat said to Alice in Wonderland - "if you don’t know where you're going, any road will take you there…."

Being part of Rotary has always helped me envision a bright future, with all the amazing programs that connect people around the world. And it’s been especially true for me over the past 8 months of forming our e-Club of Peace Educators.

Educating ourselves is opening my eyes to the tremendous array of Peace-Building activities that are ongoing in our community and the world.  If you shift your gaze you can really find amazing examples of positive peace.  And as a club we are observing and identifying ISSUES and AUDIENCES that are a high priority for us to focus on in developing new programs and projects.

Our mission is to envision the possible future: a peaceful world where individuals, communities, and nations have a voice, [and] are valued in their diversity - and we are committed to the ideas that will take us there.

As I've said before, we truly appreciate the support and encouragement of the Rotary Club of West Raleigh and our affiliate members and advisors.  You have launched us, and we look forward to staying connected with you all, even as we grow and connect with individuals and communities through the guiding principles of Rotary.

 Stay connected and stay optimistic!
